G4TV

Throughout G4TV’s year-long renewed run across 2022, I was contracted directly by their parent company, Comcast, to provide visual assets for a wide variety of things. From network bumper animations, to traditional show graphics, to streaming assets – I was doing it all!

  1. Network Launch Ident/Bumper Animations

I created the very first visuals that were seen on network launch in November 2021. This was a total of 3 bumper animation concepts, with 2 variations of each, for a total of 6. With only a few days to work, and no initial concepts, I had to quickly strategize an approach.

The heart of this approach was the decision to go with Cinema 4D’s Toon Shader. The reason was that Toon Shader can render extremely quickly – sometimes at near real-time. This allowed me to iterate things at a rapid pace.

2. Catastrophic Launch Spectacular – Intro & Show Graphics

Shortly after the initial bumper animations, I was brought on to create the intro to the very first show broadcast: The Catastrophic Launch Spectacular. Again, I employed Toon Shader in Cinema 4D, to keep time in check, since we only had two days, from concept to completion. This time, I got slightly more elaborate, using X-Particles for the rocket smoke and going just a bit deeper with animating models.

Final touches were made in Adobe After Effects.

Portions of the intro project were also reworked to create wipe transitions.

3. Dungeons & Dragons: Invitation to Party - Show Graphics

I was involved with most of the show graphics for Dungeons & Dragons: Invitation to Party, including logo animations, a player attributes template, loops & bumpers. Primary tools were Cinema 4D & Adobe After Effects.

4. Attack of the Show! - “Attack This” Header

I even had a moment in Attack of the Show! I created the “Attack This” header animation, based off of similar concepts from the show intro. Most of this was made in Adobe After Effects, though there’s some 3D text from Cinema 4D in the mix.

5. Epic Games: SuperNerd - Show Graphics

I created an entire suite of show graphics for a two-episode game show segment, sponsored by Epic Games, called SuperNerd. Everything was created to be integrated with G4TV’s XPression system.

The visuals were meant to evoke a range of “retro gaming” styles across the late 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s. The primary tower was designed from scratch in Cinema 4D, as were many of the other visuals. Retro “visual downgrading” and composites were performed in After Effects.

The show graphics were so well-received that I was asked to return to create the intro for the show! I employed my entire skillset for the show intro: Cinema 4D, Redshift Renderer, Adobe After Effects, and sound design/mix performed in Adobe Audition.

Interestingly, while the computer scene uses Redshift for a bit more of a cinematic appearance, I decided to use C4D’s Standard Renderer for the wormhole section. The Standard Renderer looks a bit more “dated,” which I felt helped with the idea of calling back to retro visuals.

Everything was conceptualized, executed, & iterated to approval in a matter of a few days.
