CASE STUDY:
ARK: Genesis cinematic animation

The challenge:

The creative minds from Layer Media & Studio Wildcard sought to wrap up their announcement trailer for ARK: Genesis with a cinematic logo animation. We began with 3D assets from the game developers that needed to be converted from a game engine into a production environment. The only initial concept was that we would burst into the scene via a kind of shattered glass.

The “lock down”

One of my major additions to the overall concept was the idea of doing a Transformers-esque “lock down” animation at the end. This idea came naturally as I was setting up the 3D asset for production.

What I did:

  • Translated game assets into a production environment

  • Assisted game developers in generating production-friendly files

  • Tailored workflow

  • Scene assembly

  • Conceptualized additional details in the scene

  • Animation, Previs, Look Dev in Cinema 4D & Redshift

  • Compositing & Post in After Effects and Davinci Resolve
